The Last Swallow

A story of spring and uncertainty

Hello

This is a bonus post to thank you for reading and supporting my writing. It’s a story, so I’ve read it out loud, because who doesn’t enjoy listening to a story? It’s offered as a gift, a virtual hug (if you like a hug) from wind-whipped mid Devon to you, wherever you are.

The Last Swallow was commissioned as part of a cultural exchange programme with a focus on how the climate emergency is impacting our local area. I wrote about the house and village I live in, because this is where most of my noticing and imagining happens and used sound recordings from my garden and walks. I hope you enjoy listening.

With love, and in hope always

Ysella x

Further Info

The Last Swallow was commissioned as part of the Bridging Cities Exeter X Jakarta project between Unesco Exeter City of Literature and Jakarta City of Literature. The British Council-supported project helped to create new work from writers and artists from both cities examining the impact of climate change. The illustration is by the talented Indonesian illustrator Hezky Kurniawan.
